Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 L IS USM Lens

The compact EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6L IS USM features a newly developed 19 elements in 14 groups optical design. Among these are 2 ultra-low dispersion (UD) elements which effectively correct secondary chromatic aberrations commonly found in telephoto zoom lens, realizing high contrast and high resolution image throughout the entire zoom range. A floating mechanism is incorporated, which a floating lens group moves relative to focal length and focus distance, to suppress aberration throughout the whole zoom range.

Together with rear focusing design, high quality images under different shooting distance, even with 0.21x magnification at the minimum focus distance of 1.2m, can be attained. Another merit of rear focusing is the fast AF speed when combining with an improved AF algorithm and the quiet ring USM drive. The lensÕ 8-blade circular aperture offers beautiful out-of-focus background that brings out the subject. By optimizing the lens coating, flare and ghosting are also greatly reduced.

EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6L IS USM features CanonÕs latest optical Image Stabilization (IS) unit design, the moving parts of the corrective optics now uses rolling balls and a V-shaped groove to minimize the friction greatly. Also, an ultra-compact stepping motor is used for the corrective opticsÕ locking mechanism. A compact IS unit with excellent 4-stop shake compensation is thus made possible, making it perfect for capturing sharp images even when shooting at maximum zoom or in low light conditions.

The foremost and rearmost lens surface of EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6L IS USM are treated with a new Fluorine Coating, first seen in EF Lens. The Fluorine Coating is highly oil-and water-repellent so that any oil smears or water droplets on the lens can be wiped off quickly and easily without the aid of solvents using a soft dry cloth. The coating is also less prone to dust adhesion by static electricity, making cleaning even easier. Optically, it possesses the same transmissivity as ordinary coating thus color reproduction and clarity is ensured.

All ring and joint features dust and water resistance structure, preparing the lens up for any adverse outdoor situation faced by professionals. To prevent the zoom barrel from accidently extending while on the move, a zoom lock is included to lock the zoom at 70mm. For frequent tripod users, the optional Tripod Mount Ring C (WII) is an indispensable accessory for quick and smooth changing of camera orientation on tripod.
