A compact, lightweight and high image quality EF-S telephoto zoom lens designed for photo and video shooting. It features a focal length equivalent to 88-400mm in 135 format and a UD (Ultra-low Dispersion) lens to minimize chromatic aberration common to telephoto lens.

Incorporating a Stepping Motor (STM) and an optical Image Stabilizer with 3.5-stop compensation, this lens provides enhanced photo and movie shooting experience at telephoto range. This lens also responds to the growing needs for convenient movie shooting required by entry users, helping them to achieve sharp and clear telephoto images and movies for a variety of subjects with ease.

Super Spectra coating has been applied to individual elements to minimize ghosting and flare for greater contrast and color neutrality when working in strong lighting conditions.

An STM stepping AF motor realizes smooth, near-silent autofocus that is complemented by a rear focus system, advanced AF algorithms, and a high-speed CPU for fast AF performance. Additionally, full-time manual focus override is also available.

Rounded seven-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing out of focus quality that benefits the use of shallow depth of field and selective focus techniques.
